A Hysteresis Model for Piezoceramic Materials
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper addresses the modeling of nonlinear constitutive relations and hysteresis inherent to piezoceramic materials at moderate to high drive levels. Such models are necessary to realize the full potential of the materials in high performance control applications, and a necessary prerequisite is the development of techniques which permit control implementation. The approach employed here is based on the quanti cation of reversible and irreversible domain wall motion in response to applied electric elds. A comparison with experimental data illustrates that because the resulting ODE model is physic-based, it can be employed for both characterization and prediction of polarization levels throughout the range of actuator operation. Finally, the ODE formulation is amenable to inversion which facilitates the development of an inverse compensator for linear control design.

Optimal Control of Piezoceramic Actuators
This paper presents the first results of an optimal control approach to piezoceramic actuators. A one-dimensional free energy model for piezoceramics recently proposed by Smith and Seelecke is briefly reviewed first. It is capable of predicting the hysteretic behavior along with the frequency-dependence present in these materials. The model is implemented into an optimal control package, and tw...
متن کاملA Unified Model for Hysteresis in Ferroic Materials
This paper provides a unified modeling framework for ferroelectric, ferromagnetic and ferroelastic materials operating in hysteretic and nonlinear regimes. Whereas the physical mechanisms which produce hysteresis and constitutive nonlinearities in these materials differ at the microscopic level, shared energy relations can be derived at the lattice, or mesoscopic, scale. This yields a class of ...

A ferroelastic switching model for single crystal piezoceramic compounds is developed. The model is based on a phenomenological Landau-Devonshire type thermodynamic theory for the materials. The model incorporates externally applied electric fields and compressive stress inputs to the crystals and models the 90 and 180 ferroelastic and ferroelectric switching induced by the inputs. Properties o...
متن کاملHysteresis Characterization in Piezoceramic Stack Actuators and Its Influence on Vibration and Noise Reduction in Helicopters Using Actively Controlled Flaps
In this study, a characterization of hysteresis in a piezoceramic stack actuator similar to those employed in an actively controlled flap (ACF) system is performed to assess the effects of hysteresis on system performance. The effect of unmodeled actuation hysteresis may significantly reduce vibration and noise reduction capabilities. A hysteresis model based on the classical Preisach model has...
متن کاملModel Development for Piezoceramic Nanopositioners
In this paper, we develop nonlinear constitutive equations and resulting system models quantifying the nonlinear and hysteretic field-displacement relations inherent to piezoceramic elements employed in present nanopositioner designs. We focus specifically on piezoceramic rods utilizing d33 motion and piezoceramic shells driven in d31 regimes, but the modeling framework is sufficiently general ...
